Injectable respiratory stimulant for sport and working equines. Increases the rate and depth of breathing to support oxygen uptake.

SKU: NVS-RES-002 Categories: ,

Tonicor Re is an injectable respiratory stimulant for sport and working equines, supplied in a 50 ml vial. It acts on the rate and depth of breathing rather than on the airway itself, which is what separates it from a bronchodilator or an anti-inflammatory used for airway disease.

Composition

Active substances and their concentrations are stated on the vial label and carton. Read them before use.

Indications

Tonicor Re is used in horses and other working equines where respiratory drive needs support:

  • conditions in which breathing is shallow or respiratory effort is reduced;
  • supportive treatment where oxygen uptake is compromised;
  • recovery support after heavy physical exertion, under veterinary direction.

How it works

A respiratory stimulant raises both the frequency and the amplitude of respiratory movement, so more air moves through the lungs per minute. The effect appears shortly after injection and persists for several hours. It is worth being clear about what this does and does not address: increasing ventilation helps when respiratory drive is the limiting factor, but it does not open a constricted airway, does not reduce inflammation, and does nothing for bleeding in the lungs. A horse that is breathing badly because of airway disease needs the airway disease treated.

Presentation and storage

Sterile injectable solution, 50 ml vial, for intramuscular or intravenous administration. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.

Important

Target species: sport and working equines not intended for human consumption. Dose, route and interval are set by the attending veterinarian for the individual animal; intravenous administration must be slow and given by someone competent to do so. Respiratory stimulants are controlled under the rules of racing and competition authorities, and administration around a race is restricted or prohibited in most jurisdictions — check the rules that apply to your discipline and region before treating a competing animal. Repeated use in place of a diagnosis delays treatment of whatever is actually limiting the horse. This page is product information, not veterinary advice.
