Trio6 is an injectable anti-inflammatory suspension for veterinary use, supplied in a 20 ml vial. Its active substance is triamcinolone acetonide at 6 mg/ml — a long-acting synthetic glucocorticoid given by several routes, including directly into a joint.
Composition
Triamcinolone acetonide 6 mg per millilitre, as a sterile injectable suspension. The acetonide form is considerably more potent than triamcinolone itself — roughly six to seven times the anti-inflammatory activity of prednisolone — and it is poorly soluble, which is precisely why it persists at the site of injection and acts over days rather than hours.
Indications
Triamcinolone acetonide preparations are used in horses, camels and small animals for inflammatory conditions that respond to glucocorticoids:
- generalised pruritus and acute eczema;
- rheumatoid and other inflammatory arthritis, including intra-articular treatment;
- synovitis and inflammation of the joint lining;
- cellulitis and blepharitis;
- aseptic inflammatory processes and traumatic inflammation.
Routes of administration
Intramuscular, subcutaneous, intra-articular and intrasynovial. The intra-articular and intrasynovial routes are the reason this preparation exists in suspension form, and they are also the routes that carry the most risk: injecting into a joint demands full aseptic technique, and injecting into an infected joint turns a treatable problem into a career-ending one.
Presentation and storage
Sterile injectable suspension, 20 ml vial. Shake before use — a suspension that has not been resuspended does not deliver the stated concentration. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.
Important
Do not use in animals hypersensitive to any component. There is a ceiling on total triamcinolone per treatment — exceeding it, or repeating intra-articular injections into the same joint, damages cartilage rather than protecting it. Corticosteroids mask underlying infection, raise laminitis risk in susceptible horses and ponies, and affect glucose and insulin regulation. Do not combine with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory without veterinary direction. Dose, route and interval are set by the attending veterinarian. Triamcinolone is a controlled medication under racing and competition rules and has long detection times — check them before treating a competing animal. Withdrawal periods apply to animals destined for food production. This page is product information, not veterinary advice.
