Steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory combination for laminitis, navicular disease, ringbone, bone spavin and tendinitis in horses and camels.

SKU: NVS-NSA-005 Categories: ,

Buta-Dex is an injectable anti-inflammatory for horses and camels combining a steroidal and a non-steroidal agent. It is aimed specifically at the orthopaedic conditions of the performance horse — laminitis, navicular disease, ringbone, bone spavin, and the inflammatory conditions of tendon, joint capsule and bone lining that follow hard work.

Composition

A combination of a corticosteroid and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, giving a strong and fast analgesic effect. The strengths of each component are printed on the vial label — read them before use, and note that two products with similar names are not interchangeable.

Indications

Buta-Dex is directed at inflammatory and painful conditions of the equine and camel musculoskeletal system:

  • laminitis;
  • chronic arthritis and navicular disease;
  • ringbone and bone spavin;
  • tendinitis, carpitis and myositis;
  • synovitis, bursitis and periostitis;
  • traumatic wounds and lacerations with significant inflammation.

Onset and duration

The analgesic and antipyretic effect appears quickly, with therapeutic levels reached within about two hours, and persists for roughly twelve hours. That profile matters clinically: the animal is comfortable for a defined window and then is not, and a horse that looks sound four hours after treatment is reporting the drug rather than the lesion.

Presentation and storage

Sterile injectable solution. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.

Important

Combining a corticosteroid with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory raises the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and renal injury; do not add a further NSAID alongside this product, and do not use it in a dehydrated animal or one with existing gastric ulceration. Laminitis appears both as an indication and as a recognised risk of corticosteroid use — that apparent contradiction is real, and treating a laminitic horse is a veterinary decision rather than a routine one. Dose, route and duration are set by the attending veterinarian. Both components are controlled medications under racing and competition rules and carry detection times. Withdrawal periods apply to animals destined for food production. This page is product information, not veterinary advice.
