Cynolon is an injectable corticosteroid preparation for veterinary use. Each millilitre contains triamcinolone acetonide, a synthetic glucocorticoid with a strong and long-lasting anti-inflammatory action.
Composition
Active substance: triamcinolone acetonide. Triamcinolone acetonide is considerably more potent than the parent molecule triamcinolone — roughly six to seven times the anti-inflammatory activity of prednisolone, and slightly more than dexamethasone — which is why it is effective at comparatively small volumes and why its effect persists for an extended period after injection.
Indications
Triamcinolone acetonide preparations are used in horses, camels and other animals for inflammatory and allergic conditions responsive to glucocorticoids, including:
- inflammation following infection, trauma or overexertion;
- allergic conditions and hypersensitivity reactions;
- arthritis and other joint inflammation;
- inflammatory skin conditions;
- recurrent airway obstruction and other respiratory inflammation.
How it works
Glucocorticoids suppress the inflammatory cascade at an early stage: they reduce the migration of inflammatory cells into tissue, limit the release of inflammatory mediators, and decrease capillary permeability. Clinically this shows as reduced swelling, heat and pain, and a calmer allergic response.
Presentation and storage
Sterile injectable solution in a sealed multi-dose vial. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle. Keep out of reach of children.
Important
Corticosteroids can mask the signs of an underlying infection, affect glucose and insulin regulation, and are not suitable in every animal — for example those with laminitis risk, infection, or in late pregnancy. Route, dose and duration must be set by the attending veterinarian for the individual animal. Withdrawal periods apply to animals destined for food production.
