Ferdexa Super ATP – 30 ml

Ferdexa Super ATP is an injectable preparation for horses and camels that pairs a corticosteroid with an energy substrate and an iron source. It is presented as an anti-inflammatory, anti-anaemic and muscular energiser in a 30 ml vial for slow intravenous administration.

Composition

Per 10 ml: dexamethasone 21-phosphate 0.2 mg, adenosine triphosphate 5 mg, sodium cacodylate 70 mg, ammonium iron citrate 15 mg, in bidistilled water. Four components with four different jobs — the corticosteroid for inflammation, ATP as a direct energy substrate, iron citrate for haemoglobin synthesis, and sodium cacodylate as a general tonic.

Indications

Used in horses and camels where inflammation coincides with fatigue or poor condition:

• inflammatory and painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system;
• anaemia and poor haemoglobin status;
• loss of condition and reduced work tolerance;
• recovery after sustained physical effort.

A note on sodium cacodylate

Sodium cacodylate is an organic arsenical. It has a long history as a veterinary tonic and it is not interchangeable with an inert excipient: arsenic compounds accumulate, have a narrow margin between a tonic and a toxic quantity, and are prohibited or restricted in food-producing animals in many jurisdictions. Anyone using this product should know it is in there, should not repeat courses without veterinary oversight, and should check the status of arsenicals under local law before ordering.

Presentation and storage

Sterile injectable solution, 30 ml vial, for slow intravenous administration. Intravenous injection must be given slowly and by someone competent to do so. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.

Important

Dose, route and course length are set by the attending veterinarian for the individual animal. Dexamethasone masks the signs of underlying infection, raises laminitis risk in susceptible horses, and affects glucose and insulin regulation; do not combine with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory without veterinary direction. Both the corticosteroid and the arsenical component are controlled under the rules of racing and competition authorities, and detection times apply — check the rules for your discipline and region before treating a competing animal.
