Gluco Up – 20 ml

Gluco Up is an injectable joint preparation containing glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate, supplied in a 20 ml vial. Both actives are building blocks of cartilage itself, which places this product in a different category from pentosan polysulfate preparations and from corticosteroids.

Composition

Per 100 ml: glucosamine sulfate 20 g, chondroitin sulfate 12 g, with excipients. Glucosamine is the precursor from which the body builds glycosaminoglycans; chondroitin is itself a glycosaminoglycan and a major structural component of cartilage matrix, where it binds water and gives cartilage its compressive stiffness.

Indications

Gluco Up is used in sport horses, camels and dogs for:

• osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease, including hip and spinal osteoarthritis;
• joint wear in animals in sustained work;
• prevention of osteoarthritis and peri-arthritis in the early stages;
• support of repair in ligament, tendon, bone and cartilage injury;
• reduction of pain and joint deformity associated with canine hip dysplasia;
• remodelling of structures deformed by osteodystrophic processes during growth.

What it does and does not do

This is a structural product, not an analgesic. It supplies raw material for cartilage matrix and for synovial fluid, and whatever benefit it produces accumulates over weeks of continued treatment rather than appearing after a single injection. A horse that becomes sound overnight has not responded to glucosamine. The practical consequence is that Gluco Up belongs in a plan alongside managed workload and, where needed, separate pain relief — not as a substitute for either.

Presentation and storage

Sterile injectable preparation, 20 ml vial. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.

Important

Dose, route, interval and course length are set by the attending veterinarian for the individual animal and species. A joint that is deteriorating despite treatment needs imaging and a diagnosis, not a longer course. Check the status of glycosaminoglycan preparations under the rules of your racing or competition authority before treating a competing animal.
