Dexamethasone with glucosamine and phenylalanine, 30 ml, for joint inflammation and pain in adult high-performance horses and camels.

SKU: NVS-NSA-017 Categories: ,

Glucodex A is an injectable preparation for adult high-performance horses and camels, supplied in a 30 ml bottle. It combines a corticosteroid with glucosamine and the amino acid phenylalanine, which directs its anti-inflammatory action particularly at the joints.

Composition

A dexamethasone-based preparation with added glucosamine and phenylalanine. Glucosamine is a precursor of the glycosaminoglycans that make up cartilage matrix and synovial fluid, so it works on the joint structure rather than on the inflammation. Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid and the precursor from which the body builds dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline.

Indications

Glucodex A is used in adult horses and camels in hard work for:

  • inflammation of the joints and surrounding soft tissue;
  • joint pain in animals with existing wear;
  • general inflammatory conditions where joint involvement predominates;
  • supportive treatment during periods of sustained physical demand.

How the three parts differ

These components act on separate timescales and should not be confused with one another. The corticosteroid suppresses inflammation within hours. Glucosamine, if it does anything for cartilage, does so over weeks of continued supply — a single injection does not rebuild a joint. Phenylalanine contributes to catecholamine synthesis, which is a metabolic effect, not an analgesic one. A product that improves comfort quickly is doing so through the steroid.

Presentation and storage

Sterile injectable preparation, 30 ml bottle. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.

Important

Intended for adult animals; dose, route and interval are set by the attending veterinarian. Dexamethasone masks the signs of underlying infection, raises laminitis risk in susceptible horses and ponies, interferes with glucose and insulin regulation, and is not suitable in late pregnancy. Do not combine with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory without veterinary direction, and do not treat a lame animal repeatedly in place of establishing why it is lame. Corticosteroids are controlled medications under racing and competition rules and carry detection times — check the applicable rules before treating a competing animal. Withdrawal periods apply to animals destined for food production. This page is product information, not veterinary advice.
