Gonadorelin Injection

$50.00

Synthetic GnRH injection for mares and camels. Treats reproductive disorders, synchronises oestrus and assesses endocrine function.

SKU: NVS-HOR-001 Categories: ,

Gonadorelin is an injectable reproductive hormone used in horses and camels. It is a synthetic form of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), the signal the brain uses to start the reproductive cascade, and it is used both to manage breeding and to investigate why breeding is not working.

Composition

Active substance: gonadorelin, a synthetic decapeptide identical to naturally occurring gonadotropin-releasing hormone. Concentration per millilitre is stated on the vial label.

Indications

Gonadorelin is used in mares, camels and other species for:

  • treatment of reproductive disorders and improvement of fertility;
  • synchronisation of oestrus, allowing breeding programmes to be planned around a predictable window;
  • induction of ovulation at a controlled point in the cycle;
  • diagnostic assessment of reproductive and endocrine function, where the response to a GnRH challenge indicates whether the pituitary is responding normally.

How it works

Gonadorelin acts on the anterior pituitary, prompting it to release luteinising hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. Those two then act on the ovary or testis. Because the product works one step upstream of the gonadotropins rather than replacing them, the response depends on the pituitary being capable of responding — which is exactly what makes it useful as a diagnostic agent as well as a therapeutic one. The effect is short-lived: natural GnRH is released in pulses and is cleared within minutes, and a single injection reproduces a pulse, not a sustained level.

Presentation and storage

Sterile injectable solution for intramuscular or intravenous administration. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.

Important

Timing is everything with this product — the same injection given at a different point in the cycle produces a different result, or none, which is why dose, route and timing must be set by the attending veterinarian against an examination of the individual animal rather than against a calendar. Reproductive hormones are restricted under the rules of many racing and breeding authorities; check what applies in your jurisdiction before use. Handle with care: GnRH analogues should not be handled by pregnant women, and accidental self-injection requires medical attention. Withdrawal periods apply to animals destined for food production.
