Muscle Fuel 30ml

Muscle Fuel is an injectable metabolic supplement for horses, camels and dogs, supplied in a 30 ml vial for intramuscular administration. It combines L-carnitine, L-arginine, ATP and pangamic acid, each addressing a different step in how a working muscle produces and sustains energy.

Composition

Per 100 ml: pangamic acid 2000 mg, L-carnitine 500 mg, adenosine triphosphate 800 mg, L-arginine 100 mg, with excipient. L-carnitine carries long-chain fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane, which is the rate-limiting step in burning fat for energy. L-arginine is the substrate from which nitric oxide is made, and nitric oxide dilates blood vessels. ATP is the immediate energy currency of the cell.

Indications

Muscle Fuel is used in competition animals for:

• support of energy production in working muscle;
• endurance in animals doing sustained work;
• recovery after physical effort;
• support of cardiovascular function;
• support of muscle function in animals in training.

How it works

The components divide the problem between them. Carnitine makes fat available as fuel, which matters most in longer work, where fat oxidation supplies a growing share of the energy. Arginine supports blood flow and therefore oxygen delivery to the muscle doing the work. ATP contributes to the immediate energy pool. Pangamic acid is included as a metabolic cofactor, although its status is less well established than that of the other three and it is not recognised as a vitamin.

Presentation and storage

Sterile injectable solution, 30 ml vial, for intramuscular administration. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.

Important

Dose differs by species and body weight; follow the label and the direction of the attending veterinarian. Metabolic support complements conditioning and nutrition rather than replacing them, and an animal whose performance is falling away should be examined before it is supplemented — poor performance has a long list of treatable causes. Preparations given to animals in work are subject to the medication rules of racing and competition authorities, including restrictions on administration before competition; check the rules that apply before treating a competing animal.
