ReLife – 20 ml

ReLife is an injectable cardiotonic and respiratory preparation for horses and camels, supplied in a 20 ml vial for slow intravenous administration. It acts on circulation and on breathing together, with the aim of improving tissue oxygenation during exertion and delaying the onset of fatigue.

Composition

The manufacturer presents the formula as reserved and states that the preparation is free of doping agents. The active substances are given on the vial label and carton — read them before use. A reserved formula is not the same as a disclosed one, and anyone treating a competing animal should obtain the full composition from the supplier and check each component against the rules of their governing body rather than relying on a general assurance.

Indications

ReLife is used in horses and camels for:

• support of cardiac and circulatory function;
• support of respiratory function and tissue oxygenation during exertion;
• delay of the onset of fatigue in animals doing sustained work;
• recovery after heavy physical effort.

How it works

The described action combines a cardiotonic effect with an increase in the frequency and amplitude of respiratory movement, so that more air is moved and more oxygen reaches the tissues. The effect is reported to persist for several hours after injection. Worth being clear on the limits: increasing ventilation helps where respiratory drive or circulation is limiting, and does nothing where the restriction is a narrowed airway, inflammation or bleeding in the lung. A horse that fatigues abnormally early is telling you something that a tonic will not fix.

Presentation and storage

Sterile injectable solution, 20 ml vial, for slow intravenous administration. Intravenous injection must be given slowly and by someone competent to do so. Store in the original carton, protected from light, at the temperature given on the label. Do not freeze. Disinfect the stopper before each withdrawal and use a sterile needle and syringe. Keep out of reach of children.

Dose by live weight according to the label, under the direction of the attending veterinarian. Early fatigue, poor recovery and exercise intolerance warrant examination — airway disease, cardiac arrhythmia, anaemia and gastric ulceration all present this way and all respond to treatment of the cause. Preparations given to animals in work are subject to the medication rules of racing and competition authorities, including rules on timing before competition; check what applies to your discipline and region.
